The American dream lives on, but is camping still relevant to that modern goal? When the first settlers travelled west across the prairies in search of land and riches, they came in wagon-trains of hundreds. Camping each night, they would move on each day, just like the nomads of the deserts. Camping was, for them, not an option they could avoid.
Today, in the wagon-trail camping footsteps of those early pioneers, the modern camping fraternity can enjoy the same adventures in much more comfort. With no more hostile native tribes, today’s camper can settle into his chosen site knowing that all the modern services are easily to hand. There’s no need to search for wood or water these days on the camping sites.
America has an amazing number of National Parks, where the camping is truly delightful. Just choose from places like the Grand Canyon, Bryce or Zion Parks, Canyonlands, Arches, Yosemite or Sequoia, to pick just a few. Whether you choose to backpack your lightweight camping tent into a remote, but stunning desert rocky landscape to set up for the night, or take your mobile home or campervan to one of thousands of private camping sanctuaries across the continent, the American dream surely lives on. And one of the greatest pleasures of that dream is camping outdoors.
