Camping in Hungary is like a rhapsody of stimulations. The country is not just famous for its goulash, but also its historic capital city of Budapest. Set beside the Danube, the twin settlements of Buda and Pest offer striking comparisons. The city and the river will enchant any camping guest for at least a few days. But Budapest is not representative of Hungary, just as Brussels is not representative of Belgium.
Once away from the metropolitan area, the countryside is a world away. The vast lakes and open farmland lend themselves to the finer things of the outdoors. In common with their nearby Eastern European neighbours, Hungarians are also very enthusiastic fresh-air holiday-makers. Old traditions die hard here, which is partly why Hungary is such a new star in the holiday market.
With ever-improving roads and communications, it’s very easy for the overseas visitor to get about. There’s nothing to distract the nervous traveller here. And don’t forget, cooking a goulash is not so very difficult in your own small camping corner. So whether you travel by bicycle, car, campervan or even horse and cart as some now do, you can be sure of a welcoming night’s stop along your way.
