A campsite in England is another kind of ritual and gives a whole other meaning to camping. Everyone is talking about the weather. And of course the weather is a dominant point of the day. For those from a hot country, the variety of weather is a revelation. There will be short spells of sunshine—that might mean twenty minutes a day, in all likelihood. It probably won’t rain all that much, but it could do. On the other hand, it might even be scorching hot too!
The English camping ground will be quite well organised and there will never be a shortage of interesting sights to visit nearby. If ever a country was overloaded with fascinating history, then Britain must surely be that country. There are some truly outstanding historic places with fairytale castles, stately homes, vast mansions and elegant cathedrals. There’s no shortage of colourful pageantry, and there’s certainly no need to stick around the campsite all day.
And at night, when you’re firmly ensconced in your own cocoon, there could be absolute silence. If you go camping in England, Wales or Scotland, you will surely be unable to predict the weather. That’s why everyone needs to take afternoon tea and scones on an English summer holiday—to get out of the wind, rain and sun all at the same time!
