In the old days in Czechoslovakia, only the elite could afford to stay in hotels, so the masses have long appreciated the delights of camping during their summer breaks. Camping was a way to get away from the daily routines—to meet fellow countrymen and enjoy a drink or two or seven with friends. That same ‘comraderie’ or camaraderie means that a camping trip across the Czech Republic is today a real fun-abroad adventure.
There are many campsites in the country, offering a wide variety of facilities. Some with excellent service are to be found in places like Prague, the fabulous fairytale capital. In the wilder places, and that means much of the pristine forest and countryside, more simple, back-to-nature sights are found.
